What is RP Forge?

A calm, editorial place to build serious roleplay characters and write with them. You author a character until they hold up, then sit them down in a parley: a scene two writers write and an AI only referees. Building a character involves no AI at all, and the referee never writes a line of your character for you.

How do I make a character?

A guide walks you through it by asking questions, not filling in forms: a voice, a few things your character can and cannot do, a want and the thing standing in its way, a handful of example lines. You also name their five traits yourself, one axis at a time, and every word of the sheet is yours. Anything you want kept entirely private goes in Private Notes.

What is a parley?

A scene between two characters, watched by the Arbiter. You each write in your own voice, on your own time, and neither side controls how it lands. On the decisive moves, the ones that actually turn the scene, the Arbiter weighs what happens and rules on it, out in the open, citing your character’s own capabilities. It calls out godmodding and never decides the other character’s reaction for them.

Can I play without a partner?

Yes. When you open a page you choose “A person” (invite another writer or join by code) or “The Arbiter,” which plays the other side for you so you can write solo. In that mode the other character’s lines are written by a separate AI model, while your own character is always yours to write. The referee is the same either way, and it still only rules the decisive beats.

Does the AI write my character?

No. The Arbiter reads what you write in order to rule on it. It weighs the decisive beats, proposes how your character drifted, and suggests trait words, but it never writes a canon line of your character. Treat its rulings as part of a collaborative writing game, not as a final authority; every change it proposes to your sheet is yours to accept or decline.

What is drift?

Your character’s five traits are not stats. They are a ledger of how the character sees themselves, and it moves with play. When the Arbiter rules on a decisive beat, those rulings reshape the traits over time. Push a trait far enough and the word itself turns into a new one; wear one down and it can fall away. The record of those moves is the character’s chronicle, and it reads back as a story.

Is my writing sent to the AI?

Everything in a character except your Private Notes is part of what the Arbiter can see during a scene, along with the bound world’s lore and the bonds you drew on your cast map. The privacy notice has the full picture, including exactly what the Arbiter is never given.

Who can see my characters?

You choose per character: private (only you), unlisted (anyone with the link), or listed (publicly discoverable and browsable). Public pages are built around characters, not accounts, so a listed character carries no key tying it back to you or to your other characters. The privacy notice is plain about the two places the link does show.

Can someone play my character without me?

Only a flat copy of it, and only if you leave that character’s door open. The copy has no effect on your real sheet, and the finished page reaches you only if the other writer asks you to read it, and then it is yours to endorse or ignore. If you would rather not be borrowed at all, close the door.

What are worlds and bonds?

A character can be bound to a world, whose lore the Arbiter reads during scenes set there. On your cast map you draw bonds between your characters (ally, rival, debt, and the like), and those bonds inform how the Arbiter reads them. Characters do not change alone: scenes can become canon, and a world’s lore grows from the parleys played in it, if you choose to let it.

Do I have to pay?

Not right now. RP Forge is free while it is early. Every account gets a daily usage allowance, enough for normal play and sized to keep any one account from running away with the cost. The Arbiter’s rulings run on Anthropic’s Claude, and a solo opponent’s lines on a separate third-party model; both cost real money per scene, so there will likely be a paid plan in future.

Is my writing safe? Will it be kept?

RP Forge is still early software, so treat your data as impermanent: we may reset it as the app changes, and the terms say so plainly. Keep your own copy of anything you would be sorry to lose. You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time; see the privacy notice.
